Work is well underway on the construction of a new multi-million pound four-star hotel adjacent to the Bramall Lane stadium.

The £17 million development, which will be situated to the rear of the Westfield Health corner stand, includes 158 bedrooms, executive suites and a modern bar, fitness suite and restaurant.

Prestigious international company Millenium & Copthorne Hotels Plc have been signed up as the operators. It will be the first Copthorne Hotel in the Yorkshire region and adds to the company's expanding portfolio of hotels situated near to major sports venues.

The new hotel at Bramall Lane will become the joint biggest in Sheffield and is set to complement the club's existing leisure offer at the ground, in particular, the extensive conference and banqueting facilities, which are currently the largest in the city.

John Stacey, Sheffield United's Head of Property, said: "This exciting project is a further demonstration of our commitment to investing in the development of Bramall Laneand continues our plans to promote the regeneration of the Sharrow area."

"The hotel will create sustainable employment opportunities for hundreds of people. It also adds to the city's increasing reputation as a place to visit and do business."

The hotel development is expected to be completed around September 2008.
